Theatre as a Space of Exploration and Memory
Today’s programme opens with the Borštnik Performative (#80YearsAGRFT), created by students of the Master’s Programme in Dramaturgy and Performing Arts at the University of Ljubljana Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) to mark the Academy’s 80th anniversary. The performance explores possibilities beyond conventional theatrical forms, offering young artists a space for creative inquiry, experimentation, and artistic exploration.
The Competition Programme features 1973, a devised theatre directed by Tomi Janežič. Part of the extensive Dodecalogy 1972–1983 cycle, the production intertwines the creators’ personal stories with the social and historical events of 1973, revealing how grand narratives continually shape individual destinies.
The festival evening concludes with a guest performance by the Croatian National Theatre Zagreb, presenting the devised production Truthiness. This multi-award-winning work by director Tomislav Šoban employs the logic of a scientific experiment to explore what happens when the principles of observation, repetition, and verification enter the unrepeatable world of theatre.
