The fourth day of the festival
We will begin today’s festival program with a roundtable discussion titled “Pandur’s Theater: ‘Stop, moment, how beautiful you are!’,” dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the death of director Tomaž Pandur. His collaborators and close associates will speak about his distinctive theatrical poetics, creative boldness, and the impact he left on the Slovenian and international theater scene.
As part of the events dedicated to Tomaž Pandur, we will also open the exhibition “The Search for and Definition of Beauty,” which, through theatrical photography and archival material, presents six notable productions from the period of Pandur’s artistic leadership of the Maribor Drama. The exhibition highlights his distinctive visual language and creative poetics, with which he left a significant mark on the Slovenian and European theater scene.
In the evening, the program will feature the performance Immaculata by the Drama SNG Maribor, created based on an artistic concept by Tomaž and Livija Pandur and closely linked to the director’s final creative period. Pandur had intended to open the 2016/17 season at Drama Maribor with this production, but his untimely death in 2016 prevented him from doing so. The monodrama, performed by Nataša Matjašec Rošker and based on Colm Tóibín’s novel, explores themes of love, loss, faith, and loneliness through Mary’s intimate narrative.
We will conclude the day with a screening of the documentary *Tomaž Pandur – The Sky Above Madrid* by director Dragica Petrovič. This multifaceted portrait of one of Slovenia’s most recognizable theater artists highlights key milestones in his artistic journey—from his beginnings in the high school theater group Tespisov voz and the cult classic Scheherazade to his international career, through which he has made a significant mark on the European theater scene.
