Festival Tuesday

16. junij 2026

Today's festival programme will be marked by the competition performances Incubator by the Mladinsko Theatre and The Doctor by the Slovenian National Theatre Drama Ljubljana. In different ways, both productions explore the relationship between the individual and society, community, and institutions, while continuing one of the central themes of this year's festival.

Directed by Oliver Frljić, Incubator draws on the harrowing image of newborn babies in the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza and, through the symbolism of a medical incubator, raises questions about the limits of humanity. The Doctor, by British playwright Robert Icke, reimagines Professor Bernhardi by Arthur Schnitzler, bringing issues of medical ethics to the forefront of contemporary social and political debates.

As part of the accompanying programme, there will be a discussion of the book Theatre and Bereavement, which addresses questions of loss, remembrance, and the staging of grief in theatre. The evening will also feature Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, produced by the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, University of Ljubljana, offering a new interpretation of one of the most important plays by Tennessee Williams.
