Maribor Theatre Festival is a member of the European Festivals Association (EFA)
At the end of April, Edinburgh hosted the EFA meeting, which brought together over 200 festival makers and professionals from 44 countries. During the four-day event, participants discussed the role of festivals in contemporary society and exchanged views on sustainability, creativity, inclusion, and international collaboration. Nicola Benedetti, Director of the Edinburgh International Festival, opened the meeting with a keynote speech reflecting on her experiences upon taking on the role, highlighting the importance of balancing deep respect for the past with creating fertile conditions for bold innovation, risk-taking, and unbridled creativity.
Upon joining the international network, Artistic Director Aleš Novak stated: "In the future, the Maribor Theatre Festival will strengthen its connections and collaborations in the international arena, also with the aim of promoting and establishing Slovenian theatre creativity in Europe. Participation in EFA is also an opportunity to exchange experiences, enhance our international standing, and foster new partnerships."
