Whenever you’re in Prekmurje and a pozvačin – a caller, or a (wedding) summoner – knocks on the door of your four-corner house, you know an important event is about to take place in the village: two people have decided to tie the knot and the pozvačin’s role is to invite all the villagers to their wedding. The author places the pozvačin side-by-side with his own identity. Although at first sight, it seems that Slovenian cultural heritage and the freedom of expression of a contemporary individual do not have much in common, the performance finds parallels in their confrontation and very obviously sketches the author’s many firsts. In it, the roots of traditions in which he grew up are woven together with the elements of queer (night) culture in which he emancipated himself.
Kiss Me is a love letter to the existing and the emerging traditions of the author’s and our space in a time, which most certainly demands a bold stance about whose wedding we will go to.
