Tomaž Pandur significantly impacted theatre with his body of work. Faithful, until the end, to his creative credo, to his unique original script, he selflessly shared his visions, dreams, loneliness, fears and enthusiasm with his collaborators and fellow travellers. He was slated to open the 2016/17 season of the Drama in Maribor with his production, Immaculata, which would have been a sort of homecoming, a return to where it all began. The final preparations of the performance were made without him when his life was tragically cut short in April 2016.

Based on Colm Tóibín’s novel, the production is formed into the fourteen mental landscapes of the Mary’s journey – an altar of love, loss, loneliness, the search for meaning in wounds that nothing can heal. Immaculata is a woman, abused into an symbol, a dogma, an instrument of religion. It is a testimony of a woman erased from history and forged into an iconso she could serve the establishment of an authoritarian religion that likewise corrupted Christ’s original teachings and turned them into a means of tyrannising the masses.
