The exhibition celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Maribor Theatre Festival presents an overview of the milestones, creative achievements and personalities that have left their mark on the Festival since its inception in 1966 to the present day. The exhibition is conceived as a chronological and thematic journey through the six decades of theatre history that the Maribor Theatre Festival, as a central national platform for artistic reflection, professional evaluation and the development of theatre art, helped to create.
The key milestones of the Festival are presented: its beginnings in the context of the cultural policies of the 1960s, the building of its identity in the times of the institutionalisation of the Slovenian theatre, the transitions accompanying the social and aesthetic changes in the 1980s and the 1990s, and the expansion of the programme in the 21st century when the Festival also became a space for strong and intensive international exchange.
In addition to the archival materials on display, the exhibition also provides insight into the development of theatre thought, institutions and audiences. It proves that in its sixty years the Maribor Theatre Festival has become at the same time a space of continuity and change – a living organism of the art and profession of theatre and a mirror of the times that theatre persistently co-creates and transcends.
The exhibition is open to the public every day during the festival.
