A Midsummer Night’s Dream hardly requires an introduction. It is a pastoral comedy interwoven with fairy elements, the transcendent, and the distinctly real. As one of William Shakespeare’s most beloved works, it explores fundamental questions about the relationship between reality and dream, as well as social norms and their impact on the individual. In our creative process, we focused on the challenge of constructing a performative world that brings a text written over 500 years ago closer to a contemporary audience. We sought a balance between preserving its original essence and situating it within a radically different, modern context. A key point of interest was how to stage the fairy world today and how to reinterpret it within contemporary theatrical language.
