In our hunger for economic growth and the expansion of our living space, we have, in the past, curtailed rivers’ natural spaces and confined them into narrow riverbeds, certain that we could keep them under control. But a confined river gathers strength. With the ever more frequent heavy rains caused by climate change, the river mercilessly reclaims what belongs to it – and reminds us that nature follows its own laws.
Through an intimate story, the production problematises the overexploitation of natural resources which leads to the disruption of ecosystem balance. In addition to ecological questions, it also explores the insufficient urban planning policies which, with the careless expansion of infrastructure increase the vulnerability of the environment. A metaphor for the urgency of change, Transport: Departure  highlights the idea of departure from the current destructive practices and systems and re-direction towards sustainable alternatives.

The production is a part of the international cooperation project Transport which was created on the initiative of the Slovenian director Tin Grabnar in the season 2024/2025. It connects six theatres from Slovenia (Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and Maribor Puppet Theatre), Poland (Białostocki Teatr Lalek), Estonia (Eesti Noorsooteater), Lithuania (Klaipėdos lėlių teatras) and Czechia (Divadlo ALFA). The project is supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
